The rights of restricted all the free agents of Benoit Pouliot of Boston Bruins were traded to the Tampa Bay on Saturday. After getting the 131st total picks in this trade they selected Seth Griffith. Along their 5th round picks and also they drafted their forward 145th overall picks for Cody Payne.
There are 16 goals against Benoit Pouliot. The enigmatic winger also achieved 32 points last season that was his career best. Once the team did not make him a qualifying offer it was clear that he will not be with the team in future.
Pouliot said “this day could be the best thing that happened to me”. Steve Yzerman, general manager of Tampa Bay said “he has all the skills and ability to match with our top wingers and so he will get his opportunity”.
Standing at 6 feet 3, 199 pounds he would be a prized procession for the Tampa Bay Lightning. Yzerman said “he has all the shots of a power play player”.
The end to end rush against the panthers in which he escaped a defender and got the puck from in between his legs and scored while falling to his knees was one of the highlights of the league. As Lightning coach Guy Boucher puts it “he has got it all - size, speed and skills”.
Benoit Pouliot will surely be getting a chance to be in the top six this season. Coach Guy Boucher further added “he is still a raw talent who is still not sure of his position in NFL and so we have him at the perfect time”. According to Guy he needs to be more consistent with his form and Lighting will give him the support to be a great player.
The all exited Benoit Pouliot said “it is a very big opportunity to play for Tampa”. To the forward Lane of the MacDermid, defense Matt Bartkowski and also Tuukka Rask goalie were given qualifying offers by The Bruins. Although Pouliot scored scorching goals for Boston he was inconsistent with his performance and it cost him his place. He did not realize the potential that carried him to fourth overall pick in 2005 draft.
Ouellet has not played in the season 2008-09. He played only three games in that season for the Vancouver Canucks. In last season he scored 31 points for Norfolk and was quiet impressive. These transfers are surely going to heat up the coming season.
